In the picture postcard village of Nayland, sits The Anchor, a charming country Pub and restaurant with a colourful past and a timeless allure. The kitchen serves seasonal, regional British fare, with a nod to comfort and plates of joy, and embracing a welcoming nudge to a more modern take on the for ever changing specials, embracing provenance. An exuberant pub to its core, with two bars, one inside one outside, The Anchor also boasts two handsome private dining rooms, both beautifully appointed and very well attended to, often overspilling on busier days as an extension of the main restaurant.

The Anchor is as many-sided and nuanced as its customers, primarily for those who wish to escape, seeking refuge and solace from the outside world in this fine little bolthole by the water. Serving local ales and craft beers never forgetting its roots of the local community just as much as welcoming the annual tourist. Wishes are met throughout the day and night, be it a cup of tea, coffee or carafe of wine captivating folk, or simply entertaining whomsoever you wish, safe in the knowledge you’ll be entranced by not just your surroundings.

Probably the coolest shack in Suffolk - certainly on the River Stour - but then we would say that. We have shaken things up a bit this season, and to much critical acclaim from all our lovely customers. It’s become their top pick, be it visiting us on their Kayaks, walking by or driving. Why? Homemade Ice Cream freshly made every single day, seven days a week. Crazy toppings to match. Certainly keeps us all entertained - delish.

The kitchen is open Monday-Tuesday from 12-2:30pm and 5:30-8pm, Wednesday-Thursday from 12-2:30pm and 5:30-8:30pm, Friday from 12-2:30pm and 5-9pm, Saturday from 12-3pm and 5-9pm, and Sunday from 12-6:15pm.


The Prix Fixe menu is available Monday-Thursday for lunch and dinner, À la carte is served Wednesday-Saturday, and Sundays feature a Sunday menu.
